Biogeography

Global Distribution

AAIRCResearch portal

The species is recorded across tropical and subtropical coasts from South and Southeast Asia through Malesia to northern Australia and the western Pacific. Distribution records should distinguish native occurrence, historical reports and cultivated material.

South Asia

India to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh

Reported from estuaries, tidal wetlands and mangrove margins, with important botanical and ethnobotanical records.

Southeast Asia

Mainland and maritime regions

Includes Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines.

Pacific

New Guinea to northern Australia

Records extend through Papua New Guinea and nearby islands to suitable coastal habitat in northern Australia.

How AAIRC treats location data

Occurrence is not evidence of traditional use. A country record, a vernacular name and a documented preparation are stored as separate claims, each with its own source and confidence level.

A distribution statement remains provisional when the original specimen, flora treatment or authoritative database record has not yet been checked.
