Safety & Toxicology
AAIRCResearch portal
Safety assessment must integrate botanical identity, plant part, extraction method, dose, duration, contaminants, intended population and interaction risk. “Natural” does not mean risk-free.
Identity & composition
Authenticate species and plant part; document solvents, carriers, concentration and batch variability.
Contaminants
Consider microbiological quality, heavy metals, pesticides, foreign matter and process hygiene.
Exposure
Translate serving size into extract and dry-plant equivalents, then evaluate frequency and duration.
Current evidence limits
Published acute or short-term preclinical observations cannot establish safety for prolonged human consumption. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, childhood, liver or kidney disease, medication use and allergy risk require particular caution.
